Opportunities Available for COSI Guest Teacher Leader for Summer Workshops

Have you taken a teacher workshop or class at COSI? Would you like to gain experience in facilitating courses for your peers? If you responded yes to these questions, consider becoming a Guest Teacher Leader for a COSI teacher workshop this summer. COSI is looking for ten teachers who are familiar with our workshops, have a strong interest in science and are comfortable facilitating hands-on science lessons in their classroom.

Guest Teacher Leaders would VOLUNTEER to assist with the facilitation of ONE two-day summer teacher workshop. In exchange, they would be able to attend one FREE teacher workshop this summer. Guest Teacher Leaders would be able to receive Ashland credit for both workshops, for an additional fee of $175/credit.

If you’ve taken a teacher workshop or class at COSI, you know that they are active, fun, and content-rich. Your role, as a Guest Teacher Leader, would be to assist or lead lessons, share personal insights about how lessons would work with your students, assist COSI team in set up and clean up of the workshop. The hours would be from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM on the days of your workshop, in addition to a 4 hour training session and a meeting with the lead COSI facilitator approximately 1 week before your workshop.

Registration Open for Girls Discover….Archaeology! at COSI April 9

On Saturday, April 9, middle-school girls will have the opportunity to do just that at COSI. COSI’s Girls Discover…Archaeology! is a day-long STEM career exploration program that’s just for girls in grades 6-8. Girls will meet professional and student archaeologists, explore careers in archaeology, and have a great time learning and meeting new friends. Scholarships are available, too. Teacher Leadership and Fellowship Opportunities at COSI

Free COSI Teacher Resource Fair August 3

Inquiry Into Health, Medicine, & BioTechnology

Study with the professionals and learn techniques that you can use to improve your health. Explore COSI’s Labs in Life with an OSU researcher who will explain her work in body composition, listen to a genetic counselor as he shares the intricacies of his work, and experience medical equipment breakthroughs with biotech engineers. Inquiry Into The Titanic

Explore the technology and engineering of big ships, including what keeps them afloat, and get personal with Titanic’s passengers. Slip & Slide Science: Inquiry Into Force & Motion

Learn how to transform your classroom into an inquiry-based environment that will launch children onto a pathway of lifelong learning. Zula’s Summer Institute 2010 is perfect f! or Head Start, Pre-K, Kindergarten Teachers, Program Directors, Education Coordinators, and Principals.

Zula’s Summer Institute 2010 will take place June 24 & 25 in Arlington, Virginia. The cost is $375, and includes registration, a Zula science curriculum “module sampler,” conference materials, breakfast and lunch daily. CEU credits will be available for an additional cost. Click here for details!

COSI Teaching Fellowship Application Due April 21

Would you like to feel more comfortable teaching science? Have you taught science for less than five years?    Do you want use inquiry-based teaching methods to get your students actively engaged in learning science?  If you responded yes to these questions, consider becoming the Carl F. Kohrt Science Teaching Fellow at COSI.  Thanks to the generosity of our retiring Board Chair, Dr. Carl F. Kohrt, COSI is able to offer one science teaching fellowship for a grade 1 – 8 teacher who has little experience teaching science but would like to increase his/her abilities in this area.

The Dr. Carl F. Kohrt Science Teaching Fellowship at COSI includes:

  • Three COSI teacher professional development programs (including Ashland University credit) during the summer of 2010. Up to 3 semester graduate credits.
  • Co-Teaching experience, with a COSI Master Educator, in their classroom with their students, teaching a subject of their choice during the fall of 2010.
  • Field trip for up to 60 students (including bus transportation) to be taken September 2010 – February 2011.
  • Field trip workshop or movie for students during the field trip.
  • One year premium family membership to COSI.

Girls Discover….Engineering! at COSI November 7, 2009

Do you know middle school girls who like science, math, and solving problems? Girls Discover…Engineering! is a fun-filled day of hands-on activities and informative sessions led by women in a variety of engineering disciplines. Participants will learn how engineers are involved with buildings, the environment, consumer products, medical research, and more;  work with other girls to solve an engineering challenge; talk with young women studying to be engineers and find out how and why they made their career choice; and have a great time learning about engineering and meeting new friends!
