Science and Mathematics Data Analysis – SAMDA
June 20 – 23, 2011
Clavius Science Center, Room 104, St. Ignatius High School
1911 West 30th St., Cleveland 44113
This professional development opportunity is funded by a Martha Holden Jennings Grant and is open to publicschool teachers of mathematics and science, grades K-8. The maximum enrollment is 24. It is suggested that teachers register by May 25, 2011. Priority will be given to teams from the same building.
This is a four day workshop (8:30 to 3:30) with a 1 hour lunch break. There are many restaurants nearby but you may certainly bring your own lunch. Participants may purchase 1or 2 hours of non-degree graduate credit ($200/hr) from Ashland U. for the summer class. A continuation of the class, online, is available through IDiscovery, and provides an additional 2 hours of grad credit at no cost. Parking is on the South side of Lorain at W. 30th.
The registration fee of $30 (check or money order) should be mailed with the registration form. This fee includes a one year membership in CRCST.
A binder of inquiry activities and the data analysis methodology will be provided. You will have an opportunity to learn how to design hands-on, inquiry lessons that generate data and then practice non-formulaic methods of analyzing the data. All the lessons and materials are aligned to benchmarks from the Ohio State Standards in mathematics and science. A team of participants will be invited to present a concurrent (50 minute) session at the CRCST Fall Conference, October 15, 2011 at the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
